In s_d 1.0 I posted a couple times about Calvin's Dad and I remember people liked it, and since it's been a while and the original posts were eaten by livejournal, I figured a Dad redux was in order.

I love how Dad is always making up random shit to screw with Calvin. This first strip never fails to crack me up with it's imagery. I think Dad had this one planned for a long time and was just waiting for Calvin to ask the question:

Another gem:

Of course, he messes around with Calvin in lots of other great ways too:

Dad, through the eyes of Calvin. I don't know whether to laugh or cry with this one:

I love how Dad is always on some verge of a philosophical meltdown about modern society. I could totally see him hopping in the family canoe, pitching his social security card overboard, and paddling off into the sunset.

It's scary how dead on Watterson is in some of these strips, because I swear, lover of technology that I am, sometimes it's just a pain in the arse:

I can't imagine what Dad thinks these days of cell phones, the fame whoring reality shows and modern cable news.

All of the above came from Marcello's Calvin and Hobbes Page (a really nice collection btw). This last one I scanned myself though, because I just love it so much and wanted to include it:

"Calvin's dad has been rumored to be a self-portrait. All my characters are half me, so it's true in some ways, but Calvin's dad is also partly a satire of my own father. Any strip about how suffering 'builds character' is usually a verbatim transcript of my dad's explanations for why we were all freezing, exhausted, hungry, and lost on camping trips. These things are a lot funnier after twenty-five years have passed."
